Paul McCartney on SNL

I was able to catch Paul McCartney's musical guest spot on SNL over the weekend, and even though there have been mixed reviews (see article above), I really liked it. Like it said in the article from The Daily Mail, his voice wasn't sounding too great. He just sounded a little old, but what would you expect of an almost 70-year-old man who has been performing since he was a teenager? Even though his singing wasn't perfect, it was still awesome to hear those Beatles songs. I especially thought it was nice that he paid tribute to John Lennon, by singing one of Lennon's best Beatles songs (A Day In the Life) and one of his solo songs (Give Peace a Chance). I always think about how close those two must have been, performing and writing songs together for a big part of their lives. I imagine they were best friends in a sense, even though they had a lot of conflict at the end. It must have been hard for McCartney with the anniversary of Lennon's death being last week. But he did the tribute anyway.

The thing I like the best about Paul's performance on SNL was that he actually participated in the skits, and he was funny! I don't know what is so hilarious about playing a mini harmonica, but I cracked up. Also there was a really funny monologue at the beginning of the show with Paul Rudd (who I also love), playing on the fact that they were both named Paul. I think it showed some spunk for him to get up there and be a commedian with the rest of the cast.
